Claire has a new friends all over the place and nothing will keep her down. We are all so blessed that Phoenix Children's Hospital has many volunteer dogs. Sometimes no one understands just how hard all of this is and her pals can perk her right up.
We have lots of tiny progresses to report and all of them add up to the fact that she is proving her doctors with textbooks wrong. Atta girl!
Claire is behaving like my daughter did years ago. My daughter suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Like Claire, she started out in ICU, moved to Peds and then to rehab. For us, rehab was in another hospital about an hour away.
ReplyDeleteIn our case, my daughter had to relearn many basic skills, starting with breathing and eating. We too kept hearing about permanent effects, and how we need to be prepared to accept major differences.
Per the hospital's protocol, the child is part of the treatment team. Told she was staying for at least six weeks, she replied that she was NOT going to stay that long.....She was out within four. We did stay locally, at a Ronald McDonald House, to avoid the commute.
It seemed as though she reached a new milestone each time someone told her that she could not do it, whatever 'it' was.
Years later, my daughter shows no lingering signs of her injury.
I pray that the same will be true for Claire.
